Museum Visit & Report

This assignment requires that you visit a local Art Museum of your choice to evaluate in essay form your review of a work of art.  Check out local Art Museums online to decide which Museum you would like to visit.  You must attach proof of your visit to the Museum with a photo of you next to, or in front of the painting.  No proof will automatically discount your Report.

Choose a painting only (no sculpture, tapestry, photograph, etc.) to which you are especially drawn.  You will notice that the requirements to respond to the assignment apply only to a painting.

Select any one work within the Museum and discuss it in a DOUBLE SPACED essay (1100 word minimum) in your own words.  (Any essay less than 1100 words will result in an automatic deduction of 20 points from your Essay grade).  Do not repeat the Assignment questions in your essay.  Make the answers to those questions a part of your essay.

You must attach a photo of your painting to your essay (see instructions below).

No late submissions are allowed. You have 3+ weeks to complete this assignment.  Canvas/Computer issues are no excuse for lack of submissions.  Contact the Canvas Helpline or Distance Education for assistance on downloading either the essay or the attachment of the artwork, if necessary.

Museum Visit and Report

Introduction

As part of class activity, I visited the Torrance Art Museum in California on June 25, 2019, to appraise a work of art. I was excited by a unique piece 'Generation Wan' by Kristy Luck, since if felt it exemplified the highest levels of creativity.  In this essay, I will analyze and review the exhibition.

Description of the Artwork

'Generation Wan' is a captivating painting as it exhibits a mixture of colors that show different impressions making it look beautiful and peaceful. The artist created it on a rigid piece of wood using oil and wax to emphasize the distinctive qualities of the medium. I believe that Luck selected this technique to increase the paint film, reduce drying period, and highlight texture. I feel that all of these permitted her to improve the aesthetic nature of the presentation.

During the coursework, I learnt that the size of painting entails the pre-primed canvas and dimensions. I analyzed the exhibition’s height and width, concluding that it was approximately 25 × 12 inches. Being an oil and wax painting, 'Generation Wan' is sized on a canvas where oil does not touch the fiber to avoid erosion and disintegration. I trust in preparing the exhibition Luck used glue to fill the pores of the cloth to stretch the surface for the application of primer.

I chose this particular piece since it is a representation of an appreciation and understanding of modern and contemporary paintings. It exemplifies the creation of a sense of beauty that evokes strong emotions. Luck’s work is a must see since it exhibits visual techniques that provoke an acknowledgment of the improvements in the creation of artwork. Professionally the presentation satisfies the independent evolution of modern and contemporary art.

As a big fan of Kristy Luck and her artwork, I comprehended that she depicts an evolving sense of creativity and invention. In her...
