Mission and Vision Statements of The Salvation Army and Marriott

INSTRUCTIONS:

Analyze the mission and mission statements of both organizations in a 1-2 page paper.  USE PARAGRAPH HEADERS in your response so that you cover both organizations for each question, to help you outline your response and to assist your reader.  This should be 500 – 750 words, typed, double-spaced, 1.5-inch margins (top and left) and one-inch margins (bottom and right), 12-point font (Times New Roman or Arial), and generally follow APA format. The effort was a tad better when it came to the mission statements, but there were still a number of "issues" on that. Again, the idea is to talk about the Mission Statement from a LEADERSHIP perspective. In that realm, is the mission statement broad and enduring in your opinion and why? Does it highlight the broad purpose and reason for existence? Does it give task plus purpose? Does it match what you think the purpose of the organization is? (i.e. is the organization purpose Discovery, Excellence, Altruism, etc?) Does the Organization appear to be following its Mission Statement or has some “creep” occurred and they’re off doing something else? Many of you failed to include the organization’s Mission Statement. Remember from LDR 300 what a Mission Statement is and for what purpose. From there, you would talk about the Mission from a LEADERSHIP perspective.  In that realm, is the mission statement broad and enduring in your opinion and why?  Does it highlight the broad purpose and reason for existence?  Does it give task plus purpose?  Does it match what you think the purpose of the organization is? (i.e. is the organization purpose Discovery, Excellence, Altruism, etc?).  I'll include some slides to this post to help illuminate the point on Mission.  Within that, if someone says Marriott "doesn't have a Mission Statement" - is that, in fact, true?  Can their Vision statement be viewed as a Mission Statement based on its context?  Do you see where I'm heading with these questions?
