INSTRUCTIONS:

In order to answer the questions for this exam, you will first need to familiarize yourself briefly with the scenario presented to you. Throughout this course, we have explored different concepts and applied them to the military context in order to better understand behaviors. For this exam, you must consider the context of the annual NATO Swift Response 2019 exercise. During this multinational collective training supported by the Americans, a contingent of approximately 100 Canadian soldiers were deployed to take part in the exercise in Bulgaria. The case study will focus more specifically on the death of Bombardier Patrick Labrie which occurred during a night parachute jump. The low altitude jump was fatal for the Canadian serviceman and one of his colleagues was also injured. Two American soldiers were also reported dead. The Canadian serviceman is survived by members of his family (including his parents and fiancée) and the Canadian military family. You can consult the following articles to give you some context:    CBC https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/canadian-soldier-gatineau-funeral-1.5202688   Ottawa Citizen   https://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/defence-watch/canadian-soldier-from-petawawa-killed-during-exercise-in-bulgaria   Petawawa Post http://petawawapostlive.ca/stories_site/june2019/june27/patricklabrie.html   National Post https://nationalpost.com/news/canadian-military-lifts-partial-ban-on-parachuting-after-soldiers-death-but-with-restrictions   https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-soldiers-remains-to-return-to-canada-after-death-in-parachute-exercise   Answer all questions - each question will be scored out of 25 points.  Structure your work - each theme (or question) should be clearly identified.  Please include a brief reference list at the end of your submission to show what resources you consulted.  1) Considering the circumstances surrounding the death of Bombardier Patrick Labrie, explain the likely impact on the cohesion of the members of his section.
