INSTRUCTIONS:
Psychology is defined as ‘the science of behavior and mental processes’. Yet most psychologists are practitioners who do not do research and often do not rely on science to guide their practice. There is also a movement toward neuropsychology and the use of medications to understand and influence behavior and mental processes. So, what is going to happen to our discipline? Are we moving toward becoming behavioral neurologists or in the direction of Dr. Phil? How can these extremes be reconciled? How can we maintain our scientific stature and still devote ourselves to understanding the human experience? And since these approaches are in some ways like oil and water, the answer lies in something deeper than just blending them. You should focus on the current mental health crisis. How can we do a better job of identifying and treating those in need thus reducing the number of fatalities and violent crimes.
