Marriage Satisfaction: Incident Factors

INSTRUCTIONS:

RESEARCH REVIEW: The review will consist of three research articles published in professional journals. All three articles should cover the same topic in positive psychology (e.g. what predicts happiness, what factors are related to a healthy marriage, what is the importance of gratitude?). The review will be 2-3 pages of typed, double-spaced text. Your paper should give a one or two paragraph introduction into the topic. Tell the reader what the topic is, how it is defined and what is interesting about it.  Use the introduction to introduce the topic and create an interest in it.  Then spend one to two paragraphs summarizing the main findings of interest in each of the articles (e.g., what did this research add to our understanding of the topic). Make sure to end the section on each article with a summary and conclusion (this can be a sentence or two) of what the article contributed.  After you have done this for all three articles, write an overall conclusion that 1) summarizes what was found across the three articles and 2) why this is important for the topic (i.e., how it furthered our knowledge about the topic).  Then 3) Explain what questions you still have and make a suggestion that it be examined/ addressed by future research. The paper should be 12-point font, double spaced with 1-inch margins and follow APA format with citations and references (see attached or follow the APA format used in the textbook). Assignments will not be accepted late without prior approval and not through email. Finding Articles:  Keep in mind that articles for the paper must come from peer reviewed journals. A good rule of thumb is that these articles include an abstract, introduction, methods, results and a discussion section.  If the article does not include these sections, please check with me before submitting it for an assignment in this class.  One suggestion is to find a topic that you are interested in from the text, and look up the source of one of the articles they cite in the references section of our text and get it on our library site.  If you like the article, you can choose two more relevant articles from their references section for the assignment.  Another way to go about it is to look at a journal and see what topics they cover.  For example, I looked up the Journal of Positive Psychology on the NYU library site and found an article on Gratitude and Cardiovascular Health. In the references, I found lots of articles that were NOT relevant such as on the "Broaden and Build Model," by Fredrickson,  but then there was another Fredrickson article about Gratitude that I could use.  If you are having any trouble finding articles, you can also contact the library and they will help you.
