The
presented scenario has many issues that make the relationship between Judy and
her senior appear constrained. My first concern in that there seems to be a
high level of insubordination, mainly emanating from Judy. After working in the
organization for a while, Judy started judging and criticizing her senior's
decisions. This means that Judy did not fully respect Jan and did not believe
in the leaders' vision. Lack of trust in a leader clearly indicates that Judy
did not fully submit to the company's management.
Secondly,
I noted the concern of communication breakdown. Indeed, managers can also make
mistakes, but as a good employee, Judy should not have talked with his colleagues.
Instead, she should have approached Jan and discuss what she felt was not right.
This way, the prevailing issues would have been solved. However, Jan can also
be partially blamed by failing to initiate communication with other junior
employees. If Jan had given employees an opportunity, the current concern would
have been solved.
Based
on the information given in the scenario, Judy is making the gravest mistake.
First, she questions Jan’s decisions. Having differences in opinion in an
organization is not the problem, but how we handle it determines how effective
the problem can be solved. In this case, after questioning Jan's styles of
managing people and operations, Judy decided to conspires and talks about her
senior with other employees. This is a grave mistake for her career. The
manager may perceive her a someone who is unsatisfied with her work and can
therefore terminate her.
Secondly,
Judy is making their gravest mistake because she thinks Jan is a stickler for
policy. People and resources cannot be managed without procedures. Also,
management styles vary from one leader to another. So, Judy should not consider
Jan as a stickler of policy, but rather recognize that Jan's style of doing
things and needs to be respected. By so doing, Judy would realize that she
needed to align herself with the management styles of doing things instead of
complaining all the time.
