A psychology/pharmacology research paper investigating new research findings from the past decade. Recently ketamine has been gaining much attention around its anti-depressive properties. Ketamine infusion clinics are widespread across the country as well as the FDA approved a ketamine nasal spray in 2019. I want the research paper to explain the pharmacology behind ketamine and how it differs in treating depression from the currently prescribed SSRI medications. Ketamine is reported to clear depression immediately for up to 2 weeks after an infusion. Then an investigation into how viable it is as a treatment for depression, citing studies, and research findings. Route of administration might also be crucial for proper effects IV vs Oral/Nasal. Also discuss how the dissociative experience might be a necessary part of the experience, similar to how studies of psilocybin trips only seem to be helpful only once the patient had received a significant dose to cause major distortions.
