Industrialization involved the process of altering the socioeconomic order by transforming the economy from predominantly agriculture to one founded on the manufacturing of goods. The changes included the use of machines to replace manual labor and assembly lines to replace artisans. Some countries had an early lead in industrialization because of the increased access to natural resources, demand for mass production and economic stability.

            The access to natural resources ensured that some countries had an early lead in industrialization. From a study of input chains, Ciccone (2012) affirms that countries such as Great Britain led in industrialization due to having access to coal. The availability of coal eased the burden of transport because its combination with stream train resulted in improvement movement of goods and raw materials for industries. Industrialization guaranteed that countries invested in essential resources that were significant to manufacturing based economy. The access to crucial natural resources led countries to unprecedented development in wealth and financial status.
