Integrating Writing

INSTRUCTIONS:

Various strategies can be used to engage students in the writing process, including questioning to activate students’ prior knowledge and higher-order thinking. Engaging students in taking ownership of their writing requires a great deal of creativity to involve students in the writing process. Part 1: Writing Lesson Plan Using the “COE Lesson Plan Template” and “Class Profile,” design a standard-based lesson plan, that includes a writing activity. (Both the template you should complete and the class profile you should use as a reference are uploaded and attached to this order.) Please select one of the writing standards for second grade below: ELAGSE2W1: Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section. ELAGSE2W2: Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section. ELAGSE2W3: Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure. Example writing activities can be the following: ( these are example ideas or suggestions that may be used. Standards (What Students Should Know) Write narratives that include series of events, details, temporal words (words relating to time or order of events), and has a sense of closure Sample Activities (What You Can Do to Support Growth) Invite your child to create a narrative (story) about a memorable event or experience. Encourage them to include interesting details and temporal words (e.g., first, next, then, after that, finally) in their writing Standards (What Students Should Know) Write informative/ expository texts with facts, definitions, and concluding statements Help your child write and organize facts for an informational text Sample Activities (What You Can Do to Support Growth) Assist your child in writing concluding statements to effectively end their story In preparing the lesson plan, include the following: Questioning strategies that activates student’s prior knowledge and higher-order thinking in writing and engages them in the learning process Strategies to creatively engage students with various forms of writing, the writing process, and to expand students communication Part 2: Reflection In 250-500 words, rationalize your instructional choices specific to the activity and aligning strategies. Be sure to address how your completed lesson plan is appropriate to meet the diverse needs of the “Class Profile” students and clearly focuses on creativity and student engagement. Support your reflection with at least two scholarly resources. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. again, please use lesson plan template and class profile for this assignment. also, use the rubric to make sure you satisfied all components
