The article, “Black and African American Communities and Mental Health,” discusses the frequency in which mental health problems appear to be prevalent in Black and African Americans in the united states. The article looks into the lifestyle of the white and the White in trying to figure out the reasons for the high prevalence of mental disorders in black Americans than it is the case of the white Americans. The articles identify trauma and violence as the leading cause of mental issues in blacks. Violence and trauma are less familiar to the white population (Mental Health America, 2021). Mental problems among the black youth culminate in Attitudes issues, and they’re generally not product and tend to avoid leadership roles for fear of victimization. The article "The Prevalence and Consequences of Exposure to Violence among African-American Youth" by Fitzpatrick and Boldizar identifies the relationship between post-traumatic stress disorder and chronic exposure to community violence. The result of the study revealed African women are more prone to post-traumatic disorder as they have more frequent violent incidence than their women counterparts. The exposure to violence among the youth from African American cohorts are more likely to have traumatic scenes and thus affected more by this mental health disorder (Fitzpatrick & Boldizar, 1993). This mental health disorder is one of the leading mental health problems that cause outburst behaviors of the Black youths and become violent and end up in incarceration.
