Identity, personality, and leadership are
coherently related in a significant way that may not seem very obvious in the
initial stages. Upon practice over time, leaders find it difficult to isolate
identity and personality form the social, personal, and organizational
definitions. According to Northouse (2016), leadership can be defined as a
function of two predominant aspects. First, leadership can be a function of
circumstances such as external factors that do not emanate from the leader.
Secondly, leadership borrows heavily from the personal character; which
involves the internal factors as a result of the leader's behavior.
Organizational strategies present a framework which the leaders and the followers ought to follow to ensure a fruitful and sustainable corporate growth. However, in some instances when personality and identity inhibit the leadership behavior, followers may face a challenge in dealing with these competing perceptions.
