Feminist movement denotes the feministic efforts against suffrage, domestic violence, and so on through producing artistic pieces that reflect in women's experiences.  The campaign used art history and practice to make women more visible, as they let them express their inner thoughts. Various pieces of feminist literature, for example, The Book of City Ladies and art such as video art by Dara Birnbaum contributed to the establishment of the movement.

In “The Book of City Ladies” Christine de Pizen supported the formation of the feminist movement through explaining the significance of women in a community. The author provoked and established significant interest in women writing by prompting a general reassessment of women's overall contribution to academic and historical sectors.
