The Great Fire of London was a significant disaster that acted as the turning point for the British community. Previously the city had experienced considerable fire incidents with most parts of London being affected by the events. However, the 1666 inferno resulted in much destruction leaving more than 100,000 people homeless. It took advantage of the slow reaction of the populace, strong winds, and the wooden houses, making it difficult to contain. The consequences of the conflagration had both benefits and effects, leading to the conclusion that it was both a curse and a blessing.

The fire outbreak was a curse as it resulted in the loss of property, but it was a blessing since it led to the establishment of the insurance industry.
