History of Ethnicity in US: Reading “Longings and Belonging”

From the selected reading "Longings and Belongings," I have learned that the root of ethnicity in the United States has a long history and continues to affect the consumption mannerism. The author established that ethnicity and racism have been in American since the industrialization period and play a key in how people perceive the consumption of different products. The onset of increased trade affairs was coupled with the desire to contour the ethnic identity in the United States. The black people were aiming to gain racial power spearheaded equality movements to be considered as equal contributors to the national development agenda. Understanding the inception of the anti-ethnicity movement and its effect on consumption mannerism is essential in my learning, particularly in the advertising and society module.
