Historical
Context About Atomic Bomb in 1945
Name
Institution/Affiliation
‘A very pleasant way to die.'
It is apparent that the USA had at its
disposal the pre-Hiroshima knowledge of effects of radiation concerning the
biological effects (Malloy, 2012). As a result, the article makes it clear that
despite the significant radiation laboratories of America compiling the health
consequences of radiation on humans; the major scientific panel on the
development of atomic bombs recommended its use on Japan in 1945. For that
reason, the author is focused at depicting how the knowledge about the
after-effects of the atomic bombs had little or no influence on the final
decision-making. Nonetheless, the article fails to describe the reasoning
behind the failure to integrate radiation effects into the design and use of
atomic bombs.
Atomic bomb Injuries among the survivors in Hiroshima
This
study focuses on the presentation of the results regarding the survey on the
atomic bomb injuries concerning the difference in distance from the point of
impact as well as the type of protection utilized by the survivors (Reynolds and
Lynch, 1955). For that reason, the authors aim at coming up with a statistical
study regarding the type of injury sustained by the survivors of the atomic
bomb so that to offer an estimated representation of the actual injuries
sustained in Hiroshima. However, there is some element of bias in the study
regarding the inaccuracy of the collected data because some of the survivors
had already left Hiroshima soon after the attack, with a considerable number
having died somewhere else.
From Radium to A-Bomb
According to Voynick (2009), the rapid development of the first atomic bombs can be described to be among the greatest scientific achievements of the 20th century. As a consequence, the article explores how the development of the study and use of radioactivity has impacted the world; with radioactivity increasingly creating its legacy. In principle, the author aims at revealing the how the discovery of radium as well as uranium has increasingly been adopted, for instance, some of the modern radiation therapy has been approved as the standard treatment for cancer. Nevertheless, the article is...
