Directions 1. In exactly SIX WORDS — no more, no less! — write down what you're grateful for. (This exercise is inspired by this NYTimes column from Thanksgiving Day, 2020, or see the PDF. Discuss one method for "cultivating gratitude" — something you already do, or something you might start doing. Explain the benefit you get from it, or the benefit you expect you might get. Explain with some detail, so we can vividly imagine what you're talking about. 3. Search ARTstor to find an artwork that portrays or depicts "gratitude," so that someone viewing the artwork sees what gratitude looks like. Note — it is NOT sufficient to find an artwork whose background or context is related to gratitude. Searching for the word "gratitude" is probably NOT going to work! Be creative in what you search for. Find an artwork such that anyone who looks at it — and not knowing anything else about the artwork — recognizes gratitude is being represented. Look for a human figure (whether depicted naturalistically or abstractly) who is expressing gratitude. Include a screenshot of the artwork; provide basic identifying information (artist, date, title, medium); provide the ARTstor URL. Finally, reply to THREE classmates, commenting on something insightful. Write at least 100 words to carry the conversation forward. The replies are worth 40% of the grade!
