Title: Frozen Dreams
In Frostburg, winter had taken hold
with an iron grip, casting its cold chill across all aspects of life. The crisp
air was filled with the sound of snowflakes dancing in the wind as they drifted
along streets and rooftops; twinkling lights brightened the town square while
wood-burning fireplaces sent out their fragrant smoke into the atmosphere.
People went about their daily tasks with urgency to avoid its chill.
Frostbite Cafe was a charming
little cafe situated at the center of Frostburg that was famed for its
delicious hot cocoa and warm apple pies, drawing in locals to gather and catch
up on the news from all around. One particular evening Lily and Emily settled
into their usual seats by the window with steaming cups of cocoa in hand.
Lily, a middle-aged woman with kind
features and warm brown eyes, gazed upon the snow-covered streets, lost in
thought. Emily, a young woman with fiery red hair and an engaging demeanor,
noticed Lily's somber expression and reached out her hand to comfort her
friend." Lily, do you seem lost in thought?” Emily asked in a soft voice.
Lily looked at Emily sadly and
explained: "This is my daughter, Sarah. She has been acting distant
lately, which worries me greatly since his passing last winter. Emily nodded

Lily nodded with her eyes filled

across the table to give Lily a comforting squeeze and said: "Maybe she
needs space and time to grieve, but don't give up on her yet; continue showing
your affection, and she'll come around eventually." Lily thanked Emily for
her kind words. "Thank you, Emily - that is exactly right; I won't let go
of her; she's my whole world!"
Just then, the door to the cafe
swung open with a gust of cold wind rushing in; Lily and Emily shuddered with
shock as Sarah, Lily's daughter, entered with an unassuming posture and distant
gaze, wearing only a thick coat and knitted scarf for, protection, it looked as
though Sarah were bearing down heavily upon herself.
Lily felt her heart racing as she
saw Sarah approach the counter for a hot beverage and order herself. As soon as
Sarah called, Lily rose and approached Sarah shyly with a tentative smile on
her lips. Lily gently asked Sarah how she was doing. Lily tried her best to
conceal her worry. Sarah met her mother's gaze with an indifferent look and
responded, "I'm fine, Mom; just trying to stay warm in this freezing
weather."
Lily nodded at Emily and gestured
toward her to join them. They had just been discussing old times and how much
they enjoyed the winter season together. "Why don't you join us?"
they suggested. "We were just talking about old memories."
Sarah hesitated momentarily but decided to join Lily and Emily at their table. Sipping from her hot cocoa brought renewed life to Sarah's eyes. "I still recall when...
