Week 2 Genetics Paper Begin by selecting a topic pertaining to genes and gene-environment interaction from one of the following resources:  Refer to chapters 4 and 5 of your text, unit II  Select a topic from the list below  Look for ideas in the WCU Library databases Conduct a literature search of recent journal articles (peer reviewed) within the last three years that pertain to your topic. You must select three articles for this assignment.  Synthesize the knowledge gained from the chapter readings and your literature research into a comprehensive understanding of the topic.  Explain and evaluate the data, assertions, findings, and/or claims made in the literature. Identify any evidence-based support for the claims made in the literature. Draw and summarize your own unique conclusions based on a comprehensive understanding of the topic and your research. Sample Topics  Down syndrome Fragile X syndrome Turner syndrome Triple X syndrome Klinefelter syndrome Consider the familial tendencies and contributing environmental factors (nature/nurture debate) in one of the following diseases: coronary artery disease (CAD), hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, colorectal cancer, diabetes, breast cancer, and obesity Complex multifactorial diseases such as Alzheimer disease, alcoholism, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder  Twin studies that helped determine that type 1 diabetes is multifactorial The genetic inheritance of alcoholism Your paper should be 4–5 pages in length (excluding cover page and references page).  Include at least three scholarly sources in your paper in addition to citing the course etext.  Use APA format to style your paper and to cite your sources. Your source(s) should be integrated into the paragraphs. Use internal citations pointing to evidence in the literature and supporting your ideas. You will need to include a reference page listing those sources.
