Evolutionary Research

INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a current problem in evolutionary biology that could be approached with a research plan. Look in the textbook, journals that focus on evolutionary biology and science media if you are having trouble coming up with ideas. Requirements at this stage include a few sentences on the science background of your topic (i.e. a short summary of the problem and what work has been done by researchers so far) and a few more sentences about the hypotheses you will be testing and your proposed research plan.  Part two of the term paper is to begin your literature survey to provide detailed scientific background of the topic, scientific motivation for the project and the basis for the hypotheses you are proposing to test. You must use scientific literature for many aspects of your writing. In your final paper each section should have supporting literature. At this stage, the goal is to find some papers that specifically address problems of the type you are interested, background theory and examples of similar work. Papers supporting your methods would also be useful here. Requirements at this stage are to submit at least five references (but more are fine) from peerreviewed literature (we will discuss what qualifies in class). These must be germane to the project at hand. In your early drafts and final paper I will expect more exhaustive coverage of the literature, and more than the five papers cited here; this is to get you started. Formatting should be in the style of the journal of your choice (list which journal –format you are following; again, we will discuss this in class
