Review
the following scenarios and for each indicate:
1. If you believe the behavior is
normal, aggressive, unethical, or illegal.
2. Also indicate what you should be
done, supporting your reasoning and/or decision indicating which of the three
models of social responsibility you are using.
For scenario six evaluate the behavior using both the profit model and
the stakeholder model, indicating differences in behavior according to each
model.

Scenario One
A
colleague knows when and where your competitor’s board meeting will be held,
and drops by that hotel at the end of the day to see what documents might have
been left behind.
Scenario Two
A colleague
is sitting on an airplane and overhears a competitor state to a traveling
companion information that appears to be confidential. Neither of the competitors know that they were overheard. Your colleague wants to utilize this
information.
Scenario Three
Attending
a trade show a colleague removes their identity badge and approaches a
competitor’s booth and tells the competitor’s representative they have an
interest in the product and asks for information.
Scenario Four
Your
consultants obtain restricted competitive information by searching the dumpster
of your competitor.
Scenario Five
A sales
representative from a competitor’s firm asks you to hire him/her promising to
provide information about the customers he/she handled while with the competitor.
Scenario Six
Your
firm conducts market research to find which butter substitute doctors most
recommend for patients with high cholesterol.
The survey results indicate 80 % of doctors make no recommendation, 5%
recommend your product (brand A), 4 % recommend your chief competitor (brand
B), & no other brand received more that 2%.

It is unethical. |
This kind of behavior will be
against the principles of competitive intelligence. Proper competitive
intelligence requires that information is acquired transparently and
ethically. In the business field, it is quite easy to obtain information
concerning the business operations of the competitive business firms in an
unethical way. Such behavior is against the traditional conflict model which
dictates that a business should possess the ability to strike a balance
between moral and economic values; as such my colleague should be able to
decide to abide by the ethical means of acquiring valuable information. |

real art of acquiring competitive advantage by using the ability to think out
of the box but within the ethical boundaries. |
