Ethics Class: Article Review on “Feminist Agendas”

The article, “Feminine Agendas: The historical evolution of feminism as reflected in the content of American women’s magazines” was written by Gemberling and published in 2012. The article is available in the journal of “American women’s magazines.”  The central theme of the author is to elaborate the trend of feminism in America dating back as early as 18th century. Gemberling achieves the key idea of the research by looking at how feminism has been presented in women’s magazines from medieval society to-date.

Chronological development of feminism is the first fact learned from the article. The author starts by indicating the nature of the earlier phases of women movements in the United States and how such efforts were documented in periodicals. These initial steps of enhancing women movements were drastically improved between the 1870s and 1970s when the political and cultural landscape on the nation took another bearing and started considering women in academics and career.
