In the instance where you are required to use this week readings, they are the three reading provided in Just Walk On, The myth of the Latin Woman, and Yellow Woman (I have assigned you task on these reading already, so it will be easier to connect what you read).

Is there such a thing as ethnic character, something that distinguishes Native Americans from African Americans, or Latinos from Asian Americans?  

            In principle, based on the three essays it is apparent that there is an element of ethnic character in the society, something that distinguishes the Native American from African Americans or Latinos from Asian Americans. In the article ‘Just Walk on By' by Brant Staples reveals how Native Americans differ from African Americans, in the sense that due to societal stereotypes, African American men are regarded as a danger to the society in general by the native Americans. Brant Staples goes ahead to explain how as an African American he suffers from racial profiling, and he talks of his first victim being a white woman as if he was criminal. He utilizes the element of diction to reveal the dissimilarity between the Native American and African American in the sense that stereotypes result in someone feeling he is doing wrong while in the real sense he is not.

            Besides, in the Myth of a Latino Woman by Judith Ortiz Cofer, Latinos suffer ethnic profiling at the hands of Native Americans. Ortiz Cofer reveals how as Puerto Rican and Latino woman she suffered from racial profiling courtesy of Native Americans due to various social stereotypes. She explains that much of the ethnic discrimination result from the mode of dressing considering most of the Americans dress in a modest manner while Puerto Ricans or Latinos dress in a vibrant and flashy mode.
