INSTRUCTIONS:
15% Development of a resource (format of your choice):Using the article upon which you write your empirical article review, you will develop a resource to share the results with parents, teachers, legislators, children themselves, or another population that you think will benefit from this knowledge. This could be a video, a pamphlet, a wikipedia entry, a picture book, a letter to a government minister/ministry, or any other format of your choice. The format should be something that would make your message accessible and of interest to the population you are targeting for your message. The only format that is not permissible is a presentation to the class, since you will be doing this as an assignment (see below). As with the empirical article review , you will summarize the research and then provide a message to your audience about why and how this research is important or matters to them.Article summary details sufficient4 - research question, hypothesis, method, results, and conclusion are clearly explained so that they can be understood by the target audience2 - some information is not clearly explained in a way that could be understood by the target audience.0 - summary information is lacking, incorrect, or not explained at a level that the intended audience would understand. Why this research or finding is important and relevant to the audience is clear and audience-appropriate3 - why this research or finding is important and how the audience can use this finding is clearly and cogently explained so as to be accessible to the target audience. (E.g., if this is a picture-book targeted at children, there is a child-friendly explanation such as “sometimes it takes a lot of tries for us to learn! Keep trying because you will get better with practice”; if this is a resource for parents “there are lots of different ways to learn how to move: some kids crawl on their hands and knees, other kids crawl on their hands and feet, and other kids never crawl but go directly to walking. Let your child find their own path to walking by encouraging them with smiles and praise no matter how they move around.”)2 - why and how this research or finding is important is not entirely clear or would be difficult for the target audience to understand.0 - why this research or finding is important is omitted or not appropriate for the target audience.Engaging format4 - format is engaging and appropriate for the target audience (e.g., a powerpoint would not be appropriate for children whereas it might be appropriate for a teacher or other adult)2 - format would be difficult to understand or not very engaging for the target audience0 - format is not engaging or is grossly inappropriate for the target audienceBrief summary and upload to course shell4 - a brief (~200 word) summary describes the resource you have created, the target audience, and why the resource would be important to the target audience in a way that engages that audience. The summary and the resource are then posted on the course shell (directly or as a link) for your peers to review prior to your presentation.2 - the summary does not provide sufficient information to understand what the resource is, who it is for, and/or why the resource is important0 - the summary is omitted or the materials are not posted to the course shell prior to your presentation
