Marriages are often characterized by domestic violence as one partner exhibits behavior that seek dominance and control over the other partner. Perpetrators of domestic violence batter and physical assault their partners (Bhandari, 2010). Domestic violence threats can be summed up to be extortive in nature with aggravated threats that result to rape, murder or maiming. Consequently, different forms characterize domestic violence, for example, emotional abuse, psychological violence, physical violence as well as sexual assault. In regards to domestic violence, the severity and the frequency vary, this is despite domestic violence being complemented by one partner seeking constant dominance over the other. For that reason, domestic violence has been labeled as an epidemic affecting different individuals in the world regardless of gender, religion, age, sexual orientation or nationality. According to Wilcox (2007), emotional abuse accompanies gender violence as well as the controlling behavior that reflects on the systematic pattern of control and dominance.  Therefore, it is imperative to note that domestic violence results in psychological trauma, physical injury and extreme cases, death.

Conversely, it is important to note the various classifications of domestic violence victims includes violence between married couples or individuals characterized by a common bond, for example, areas of residence. In consequence, domestic violence facts incorporate different races, sexual orientation, and races. Further, domestic violence threats are stated to be unlawful expressions of criminal contingent on the behavior of the violence recipient. For that reason, domestic violence threats can be summed up to be extortive in nature with aggravated threats that result to rape, murder or maiming. Finally, according to Bhandari (2010), domestic violence victims also suffer verbal abuse that includes expressions and speech set forth, normally they are typically demeaning, insulting and threatening in nature.
