MGT 4620 Case 2 Diversity Management at IBM   The goal of the case study assignments is to give you practice presenting the content we are learning in class in a professional and concise manner. In the professional world, we often need to present our thoughts and evidence to individuals who do not have a lot of time or energy. Therefore, it is crucial that we practice communicating an argument in a brief but persuasive way. This should be formally written, clear, concise, and well organized.   Deadline.   Due November 1st by 11:59 PM in Moodle as “Case 2 - Diversity”. Out of fairness to on-time peers, late papers lose points (e.g., -20 points within 24 hours, -40 points within 48 hours, etc.) and are not accepted after 2 days. Format: 1-2 typed pages single-spaced, 1-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman font. Feel free to use headings and bullet points to keep your points organized. Content:   First page should include the case title, your name, your section (001/002), and the date you turn in the assignment. Read it for clarity and typos.  If I cannot understand what you mean, you don’t get credit.   1.     First, read the case “Managing Diversity for Success: The Case of IBM” (PDF on Moodle under the assignment). Then in answer the following.   2.     Briefly summarize the case (less than 100 words):             - What company/industry is involved?             - Who is involved?  - What is the challenge or problem that is trying to be solved? 3.     Answer the following questions (and include sufficient evidence from the book/lecture for each): a) Identify two ways IBM has managed diversity in the past. How do these strategies work to promote diversity at IBM based on what you learned about diversity management in the lecture this week? b) Thinking back on the week we discussed Justice, how do IBM’s practices influence perceptions of justice and fairness? What types of Justice are accounted for in IBM’s strategy? Are there types of injustice IBM has overlooked and if so, how could they account for it moving forward? c) What types of competitive advantages could IBM have gained from having and promoting such a diverse workforce?   Note: Make sure to review your feedback from case 1 to help develop your writing/communication skills while working on case 2!       Grading Rubric for Paper   Briefly summarize the case in 100 words or less. 6 pts   Answer question 2a. Explain what each type of justice. Identify which types are accounted for or not. Suggest ways IBM could improve justice perceptions not currently accounted for. Use course terms where applicable.
