To begin to understand assigned health condition, need research using reliable resources (NO .com or .org websites allowed with the exception of the Center for Disease Control [CDC], National Institute of Health [NIH] or National Institute of Mental Health [NIMH]). This portion of the assignment must include at least FOUR reliable peer-reviewed primary sources and other appropriate secondary sources. Using what you find out about this health condition, provide detailed information on the following: Medical Background Definition – key features, clinical findings and clinical picture for someone with this health condition. Provide other terms for this health condition if it is known by other names Etiology Prevalence, including geographical location of prevalence data Medical management - includes pharmacology and side effects of these medications and medical procedures Role of Occupational Therapy and other therapies in the management of this condition  Prognosis - include impact on caregiver/family Case Study & Occupations Create a fictional client (child or adolescent) who exhibits this health condition. Provide age, gender and living situation appropriate for someone with this health condition. Include the setting in which they are receiving OT services. Make sure to fully outline specific functional impairments your client is experiencing due to the medical condition (fully describe OT rehab Dx). Make sure to clearly explain present level of performance (PLOP) for your client, as your assessment choice, goals, and interventions will be based on this level of functioning. Present level of performance or PLOP is extremely important. Here is an example of the adequate description: Sean struggles with dressing himself independently due to difficulties with problem solving and sequencing, which stem from his diagnosis of cognitive disability. He is unable to orient the clothes in relation to his body, may put pants on before underwear, and will inappropriately pick out clothes in accordance with the weather. When it comes to participating in family game nights, Sean has trouble following rules and social norms. He will act impulsively, lack turn taking, talk over his parents, and misunderstand the objective of many games.  Make sure to include aspects of complex diversity in your case study (cultural, religious, racial, regional, etc). List three occupations in which your client has difficulty participating in due to their health condition and present level of functioning. Indicate which area of occupation and a sub-category as classified in the practice framework. These occupations must be impaired due to the condition, not due to the secondary psycho-social implications. Be sure to list specific occupations, not a broad category (e.g., “Self-feeding with a spoon” not just overall “Feeding”) according to the practice framework. For each occupation, list four client factors and four performance skills or performance patterns (eight total) that are limiting their ability to participate in these occupations (they must be related to the health condition and the occupation). These also must be impaired due to the condition, not secondary psycho-social implications. Please bold the occupation, client factors, performance skills and/or performance patterns. Example: Occupation #1: Basketball, leisure, leisure participation; Client factors: decreased muscle power, joint mobility, judgment, learned movement patterns. Performance Skills: motor/praxis, cognitive skills, etc. The final page of your report will be a reference list in the APA format. All references must be from peer-reviewed, reliable sources. Include at least four primary sources. No websites allowed (no .com or .org websites allowed with the exception of Center for Disease Control [CDC], National Institute of Health [NIH] or National Institute of Mental Health [NIMH]). Do not exceed 6-7 page limit of content. May have up to 8-10 pages total with the title page and the references, but no more, please.
