Decision
Making Regarding Technology
Introduction
Decision-making
is an essential and critical activity that every organization has to ensure is
done the right way regardless of the industry. However, the need for high
accuracy is more incumbent on the nature of the service being offered. For
example, accuracy and quality of decisions made in the health care industry are
more demanding because it involves saving people's lives and probably averting
possible health care problems that may affect a large population of people. An
excellent example of a health care problem that requires a very accurate
decision is the current case of the COVID-19 pandemic. Without better
decision-making, a large population across the world can be highly affected.
Despite the need for better decision-making mechanisms, managers in the health
care sector cannot operate effectively without information technology. This
report discusses one key technological application that can be used in the
health care sector in decision-making.
One
technology application that is used in health care to facilitate decision
making.
The
Electronic Health Record (EHR) system presents an opportunity for creating data
visualization within a health care facility. Over the last three decades, human
ailments have increased, making it complicated to filter and safe data relevant
to closely-related human disease. Due to this increased need for big-data
excavation and utilization, the Electronic Health Record comes in handy to help
healthcare managers visualize all types of information saved within hospitals' databases
(Shickel et al., 2017).
Utilization of EHR facilitates real-time capture and retrieval of patients’
data such as diagnosis, medical history, immunization, family history, and
other key elements captured with a patient visits a health care facility. When
a health care manager wants to make some decisions, EHR summarizes data,
tables, graphs, and trend prediction. These are the key elements of making
evidence-based decisions in the health care industry (Shackle et al., 2017).
The
application's impact on the quality of decision making.
The
application of Electronic Health Record technology in decision making has a
significant impact on the quality of decision making. First, technology enables
managers to rely on hard evidence. According to Dautov et al. (2019), decision making in health care
is critical and cannot be entrusted on instincts, hearsay, or other human
common-sense reasoning. As such, a decision made in whatever instances should
be based on tangible evidence, which in most cases, implies relying on
available data; this what is referred are hard-evidence (Dautov et al., 2019). Secondly, using
EHR promotes quality in decision-making because decision-makers can predict
trends and observe the progress of previously made decisions as far as
operation in health services provision is concerned. EHR pulls information from
different interconnected databases and creates models that can be used to
predict the future. This way, managers can always be prepared as they
anticipate the model’s outcome due to the EHR's computing ability.
The
process for selecting and implementing the application.
The first step in selecting a technological application in the health care sector is...
