Cultural Dynamics of Technology

INSTRUCTIONS:

To explore topics related to culture, society, and technology through extended written response. A special focus should be paid to how diverse cultures or demographics of people interact with technology.   Assignment:   Choose a technology that exists today and briefly describe what it is and its story of invention. Then, examine how a certain population or demographic interacts with and is affected by the technology both now and historically (if applicable; the technology may not be old enough to have “history” and that is okay). Ideally you would choose a demographic or population with which you DO NOT identify. For example, I am a white, American, gen X male, so I probably wouldn’t write about any of those demographics.   When I say population or demographic that is a broad term: it could be an ethnic group, age bracket, gender, sub-culture, nation, etc. Choose at your discretion, just be sure to briefly describe the population or demographic you are discussing.   Finally, discuss what, if anything could be done on behalf of this demographic  or population by government, society, or themselves in regards to this technology to either correct problems or extend potential.  Explore the topic thoroughly and use information from the textbook (if applicable) as well as information from outside resources to discuss. Cite sources and use quotes when necessary.   Format:          As a reflection of how most people get information today, you will follow the format of an online blog postor an online news articlefor this writing assignment. As with all blog posts and news articles, the purpose is to persuade the reader to believe something through facts and argument. The ideas and information should have a logical progression and should have a strong introduction and conclusion.
