            Crime analysis can be defined as a function of law enforcement that incorporates organized analysis that is complemented by identification and examination of trends as well as patterns depicted in crime. For that reason, according to (IACA, 2014) information regarding crime patterns can be significant to law enforcement agencies through the deployment of resources effectively, offering assistance to detectives and apprehension of crime suspects. As a matter of fact, crime analysis plays an important role in offering solutions to crime problems, further it can be used to formulate strategies important to crime prevention. Additionally, crime analysis has been acknowledged to occur at different levels for instance, strategic, tactical and operational (IACA, 2014). Crime analysis involves the study of various reports compiled by law enforcement agencies, for instance, arrest and crime reports so that to identify the patterns and trends behind the various crimes. In reality, crime analysts have the capacity to analyze different phenomena surrounding crime so that to discover all the relevant factors, sometimes predict future occurrence of a particular crime as well as issuing the public with crime reports and bulletins. Therefore, this essay will look at how crime analysis is complemented by the dedication of crime analysts through the identification of various crime analysis strategies and definition of concepts of intelligence application.

2.0 The role of crime analysts in solving crime

            According to Craglia, Haining, and Wiles (2000), crime analysts help the law enforcement agencies in solving various crimes in different ways through the enhancement of the primary duties of the agencies in question. As a result, crime analysts come up with invaluable information regarding various criminal organizations in terms of objectives, a chain of command, etc.  Hence, crime analysts help in solving crime through the following ways.

·         Performing an analysis and research on long-term problems

            Crime analysis is a complex venture that does not only involve the immediate patterns and series but also requires analysts to analyze long-term problems faced by all the law enforcement agencies (IACA, 2014). For example, examining a park that has been drug-dealing for a long period of time to a street that is involved in a high number of reported cases of car accidents as well as theft and muggings, crime analysts are well trained to tear such phenomena apart, investigate the different dimensions, and finally compile a report that can be used to help the law enforcement agencies to solve and avert future occurrences as well as offering long-term solutions.
