Conversation between Hannah Arendt and Rousseau

INSTRUCTIONS:

Stage a conversation between Hannah Arendt, who differentiates between the political and the social, because she argues that it is a helpful division to make to think about political questions and Rousseau who would take the counterview, namely, that such a division is unhelpful and obscuring. At the beginning of your script, you will first identify the following: 1. Setting: What is the setting for the conversation? Decide on a setting and briefly explain it. For example, are these two figures talking over dinner? or are they together on a walk? or are they debating each other before an audience? or are they exchanging a series of letters/emails? You should stage the conversation keeping in mind the setting and its dynamics. 2. Year: What is the year? Decide and clearly identify the specific year in which this conversation is occurring. You are free to choose any year, whether in the past, or if you want to decide on the present year of 2020, or some year in the future. 3. Context: What is the one big issue or event which forms the backdrop for this conversation? Identify this, so that there is a context to the conversation. For example, maybe the backdrop is the French Revolution, or the American Civil War, or the U.S. Presidential Election of 2020, or the landing of alien beings in the year 2050, or the 1918 flu pandemic. Then, you will write the conversation in first person, impersonating Arendt and Rousseau.
