INSTRUCTIONS:
Q1: In 150 words, relate one or two of the arguments discussed by Professor Newman in the video lectures for weeks 5 and/or 6 to a contemporary cultural, political or scientific event of your choice. Please explain: 1. what was said in the lecture regarding the texts and contexts of the authors examined and, 2. how it may help us read or analyze this event in a fruitful way. Be specific! You can write about an event in the U.S. or elsewhere in the world; be sure to describe exactly what you are writing about and include a link of information about the event (these are some of the sources where you can look for info and share the links: The LA Times, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Nation, Vox, ProPublica, The Jacobin, Vice News, etc). Your comparison point can be any important bit from any of the lectures for weeks 5 or 6.(150 WORDS) Q2: Please choose a specific character, OR a scene, OR a "story" told in Heaney's play and Rich's poem cycle, and then compare and reflect on the differences. You may write, for example, on the gender of the main "actors" in both texts, or on the scene or location where most of the action occurs. Is there reconciliation and solidarity at the end of each text? Make sure that you read the entire poem cycle of Rich's "Twenty-One Love Poems" before you write this post! You must use at least 2 quotes from each text (4 quotes in all!) in your post.(150 WORDS)
