Introduction

According to Arroll et al., (2010), congestive heart failure can be considered as a situation where patient’s heart undergoes a progressive chronic condition which affects the normal pumping power of the heart. While in most instances Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) can be used exchangeably with heart failure, the former means the particular stage where the blood fluids build up around the patient’s heart causing inefficient pumping. On the hand, readmission rate can be defined as the number of times that a patient is taken back to the hospital after the initial discharge within a period of 30 days (Nasir et al., 2010). The purpose of this research paper is to investigate the causes of heart failure and accompanying factors that affect the readmission rate for a patient suffering from this condition.

Background and Significance of the Problem.

Over the last couple of decades, the rate of readmission for patients with heart failure conditions has increased alarmingly. According to (Kotecha & Fox, 2013), this can be attributed to the fact that the patient do not follow the prescriptions by the physician. Also, it is argued that this problem can be attribute to the failure of adopting a lifestyle modification that can enable patients to heal and reduce number of readmissions. Apparently, heart failure is not actual stoppage of the heart but reduced power of the heart to pump the blood to all parts of the body making the patient to be readmitted to the hospital when this condition reoccur. Nasir et al., (2010) and Arroll et al., (2010) argue that the problem of readmission is mostly common when the patient’s way of life contradicts the doctors prescriptions. The significance of this problem is based on the grounds the number of readmission for patient with heart failure condition is increasing at a very high rate.

Statement of the Problem and Purpose of the Study

Buckley (2016) argues that unlike the elderly, young people may have a significant problem interacting with their peers in case the congestive heart failure cause them a recurrent readmission. Due to this fact, the research aims at finding out the best mix of medical and lifestyle related intervention that can be used to alleviate the heart failure problem.
