Resources Supporting Individual in Later Adulthood
One of the key
services that support older adults in my community is a senior center. This
community resource offers a broad range of services to the elderly, such as
mental health care consultation, nutrition, as well as sensitizing the elderly
on how to promote their general well-being. The second community resource
available is an income support program, mainly directed to individuals in later
adulthood, mainly those who do not have substantial family members' substantial
support. According to Wacker and
Roberto (2013), this resource is geared at elevating the older people from financial
precarious situations. This resource comes in handy in aiding the older adults
in my community, mainly those who did not have properly funded retirement
plans, and those experiences general health conditions.
The senior center
acts as a place of creating links between people experiencing similar aging
issues. One way that makes the resources effective is the fact that it manages
to bring people experiencing varying aging conditions together and provide them
with distinctive needs. Haight and
Gibson (2005) noticed that working with the elderly can be efficient when
expediting interaction sharing of experience amongst themselves. Secondly, the
senior center resource is very effective in my community since it links
participants with different service providers pertaining to their general
health condition. Income support programs are very effective in my
community because they allow the elderly to afford medication and other costs
of managing the aging stage.
One of the major services unavailable in my community is the lack of nutrition programs that can help the elderly access quality and subsidized foods. Even with the income support program, individuals in later adulthood continue to experience the problem of lack of diet advice and the challenge of having to buy foods at an extremely high price. Therefore, even when funding through the income program is consistent, much of such funds are spent acquiring basic necessities.
