Climate & Development .Jeff Sachs, has been unusually outspoken about the importance of the interrelation of economic development, poverty, inequality, government corruption, and global warming. Cite one or more quotes from his chapter make the case why climate can not be ignored when addressing economic development. What do you think his critics might say and his response would be? 2. IPCC Urgency. The 1.5o IPCC report focuses on the urgency of climate action and the dire impacts on sustainable development, poverty and inequality of global warming goes past 1.5 degrees. Explain how the IPCC makes it case and supports it. Uncertainty is unavoidable when making projections, how well does the IPCC communicate the uncertainty and claims? Compare with critics of the report (Google the story). 3. Adaptation. Human history is full of examples of adaptability and innovation. Some observers believe that predictions of climate impact do not take human adaptability into account, and so climate impacts tend to be overestimated. Do you agree? What are some challenges of adaptation occurring right now in the Arctic? Refer to one of the AMAP Adaptation Actions for a Changing Arctic reports in your post. 4. Arctic. Why is the climate changing faster in the Arctic than in other parts of the world? How is the Arctic changing the climate of the rest of the world? Refer to AMAP SWIPA reports and video and/or adaptation reports in your answer. Focus on a few important points from the AMAP reports and videos. 5. Uncertainty of Knowledge. What are scientists most certain about climate change? What are scientists most uncertain about climate change? Refer to IPCC reports, AMAP SWIPA reports, videos and/or other sources (e.g. AMS Chapter, Comet Met Ed). Explain.. Choose the knowledge areas of most interest to you in climate change.
