Eli Fares works for a mid-sized industrial company as a departmental administrator. Having worked for six months at the facility, he has become aware of worrying relations issues that affect employee welfare. To instigate change, Fares plans to hold a discourse with his superior regarding his observations. Formation of a workers union, its effects on management, current liabilities, and justification of the plant’s policies on human resource are the predominant issues that Eli can discuss with the plant manager.
Unionizing process allows work teams to have an entity that strives to alter an unsatisfactory work environment. According to Vincent (2016), the formation of a union entails; preparation, the definition of rights, campaigning, campaign demands, elections and negotiations. While membership in unions attracts considerable benefits, it takes time to formulate one since it requires significant efforts towards planning process (Zuk & Zuk, 2018). Fares should explain to his superiors that the formation of labor organizations is time-intensive and can only be beneficial if founded on a real issues program. A workers union acts as an exclusive representative of employees since it scrutinizes decision making of management teams.
Eli should tell his supervisor that the establishment of a union will influence the ability of the firm to make individual decisions, limiting its freedom when dealing with workers.
