Introduction

Like any other culture, the indigenous population has special social and medical needs that must be understood to ensure effective services deliver. People seeking medical services vary based on beliefs, cultural expectations, and social status, among other attributes, which are vital during diagnosis and medical follow-up. Variation in culture also affects how patients interact with medical practitioners; some people will depict problems when communicating with health care professionals, mainly due to the socio-cultural beliefs or simply because of the extent of value they attach to the services being offered in a health care center. The case study presented shows a constrained relationship between a patient, Susan, and nurses meant to provide services to her. Susan had a delay accessing medical services due to what she terms as a bad experience with hospitals. The main problem presented in the case study is that Susan believes she will not get quality and safe services to the point she is harsh to nurses. She also has a bad parenting attitude by constantly shouting at her children.

Social or Historical Factors that Might Have Inhibited Susan's Access to Health Care Services

The first main social factor that may have barred Susan from seeking earlier medical services is unequal access to health care services. In the case study, it is indicated that Susan "often feels she isn’t heard or respected” to a point where health care practitioners failed to heed her concerns. According to Yuan (2020), healthcare opportunities' unequal distribution drives disadvantaged people away from seeking medical services. Susan's case is the same; how she had been treated in the past has shaped how she is reacting in the current medical situation.

The second applicable social aspect that might have limited Susan from seeking medical services earlier is the lack of information about her lights. Information in the service care sector is key; when participants are denied information about the liberties, they are likely to be oppressed in search of medical services (Yuan, 2020). For example, Susan was not away that she could demand quality and equal services, so she maintained the fear that all health care facilities are oppressive and run by incompetent people.

Finally, Susan faced a lack of better socialization skills and a lack of respect for health care practitioners. When a nurse was administering an antiemetic intravenously, the uptake was totally not in line with the professional conduct between a nurse and a patient. She indicated that “This isn't working; you don't know what you're doing!" This shows her inability to interact with professionals might have contributed to her negative experience in health care in the past.
