"Black Panther" Analysis

"Black Panther" is an iconic Marvel movie released in 2018, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring an all-black cast. It follows T'Challa as he contends with a lethal enemy who hopes to exploit Wakanda's advanced tech for their evil schemes (Coogler). The movie is widely praised for its representation of black culture and its touching messages about identity, heritage, and social justice. It sheds light on the issues that people of color face in a largely white-dominated world while delivering an inspiring message of strength within the black community - all this set against the backdrop of a richly crafted Wakanda that pays homage to many African cultural influences. Commercially, it also smashed records grossing $1.3 billion worldwide, won/was nominated for many awards, and has opened up conversations around more excellent diversity/representation in Hollywood.
