Berger & Luckmann: “The Social Construction of Reality”

Sociologists Berger and Luckmann have been instrumental in explaining the nature of human beings. In their book, "The Social Construction of Reality, they shed light on the field of social constructionism. The authors in this book try to answer how social fact results from subjective meaning. Berger and Luckmann argue that man is a social product and society an objective of reality. When I examine their work, it is pointed blank that reality is a social construct. The people living and working in the society are the ones constructing the reality. One of the main issues that the concept of the social construction of reality is that it looks as if it is too casually constructed on how the concept understands the historical processes in which constructions or inventions are assembled and become robust or distributed. It is very easy to see the construction has done with the sole purpose of advancing a particular institutional or social group’s interests. I also think that the entire concept may have problems. It is very unclear to believe in something we imagine as a social creation since it may lead to manipulative sensibility on whatever we do as a people.
