Behavioral and Cognitive Media Report

INSTRUCTIONS:

Please prepare a report on your findings by researching (certainly able to use the textbook as well) and providing detailed answers to the following questions.  Think of this assignment, as if you are a school psychologist who is providing a report to an educational institution or submitting the information to be published in an article as advice and feedback for parents and/or teachers.   The report must be at least 5 pages, 12-inch font and double spaced. You must complete all three steps in your report and answer the questions asked for each step. Feel free to gather additional data/research for your report. Just be sure to cite references.     Part One: Educational Television Programs. Television (or you tube, streaming, etc) that are based on learning theories can be a viable means of educating young children. Pick one program, educational, that in your opinion you would suggest to parents and teachers and why? Provide support for your choice and in addition, how it would benefit children from a behavioral and cognitive approach.   Part Two: Sesame Street. Some of the effective techniques used on Sesame Street were described to increase children’s attention and help them learn. Watch an episode. Discuss after watching how these strategies were used and applied in the episode you viewed. Were there any additional techniques or strategies you feel parents and/or teachers could use that you deem appropriate?  If so, why?      Part Three:  Media and Violence: Given Alfred Bandura’s BoBo doll experiment (he is a Social Cognitive theorist) what is the role of the media in the development of violent behavior on television, movies, video games and internet? Should we recommend parents (again, from the basis of Banduras experiment!) closely monitor these types of shows available to their children and why, or why not?   Please research the work of Bandura and include his work in your report to either agree with what he has found or disagree and elaborate on why you do not agree.
