INSTRUCTIONS:
General Description You must be able to observe a local example of design in person and utilize those observations in this assignment. You will apply the principles of Bronislaw Malinowski’s “Basic Needs and Cultural Responses,” to an example of design found in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. You are required to develop language that describes the visual experience of this example of design by applying concepts learned in class, and through research. You will use that research to support your argument. The assignment requires you to select an example of local design which may be in the form of an appliance, wearable technology, product, interior space or logo of your own choice. The topic must be selected from the list below. You will analyze this example according to the required reading written by Malinowski, and engage in independent research. There is a minimum requirement to include two sources which come from academic journals or books. References from informational, but non- academic websites can be used, but will not count towards the two-source requirement. Requirements: 1.
