Banning Energy Drinks
The debate about energy drinks has always raised traction with each argument getting its fair share of attention. The original idea of the manufacturers of energy enhancement drinks was to help the users get instant energy which can enable them to accomplish some duties. However, only a few people pay attention to the method of producing these drinks and the health implications that may arise for a prolonged user. The most common energy drinks go with famous names such as Red Bull, Rockstar, Zipfizz among others. Energy enhancing drinks have adverse impacts on human health and can even cause death; therefore, users should device more sustainable means of gaining strength.
First, the biggest dangers that may arise a result of using energy drinks is death. According to Stanton (88), in 2010, about 25% users of energy drinks had reported to various hospitals in critical conditions in the United States, and about 51.5% of them succumbed to death. The users of energy drinks are mostly associated with abuse of other energy enhancement drugs which eventually make their bodies weaker. Besides, research by Al-Shaar et al. provides information that between 2007 and 2011, the patients with energy enhancing drinks issues were more than other cases with a specific age bracket of 18 to 37 years. These incidences are a clear indication that there have been adverse effects on the users of energy drinks which have gone to the extent of causing death.
Death resulting from the consumption of energy drinks have always happened, and not many studies document these occurrences. However, in the available literature, it is clear that deaths as a result of energy drinks have increased to a point where various stakeholders should play their respective roles in curbing this trend. Currently, the effect arising from the consumption of energy drinks is due to rise following increased advertising and availability of cheap beverages which can be afforded by the teenagers. A study by Rawlins (102) shows that between 30% to 65% of the young people have access to energy drinks; which are available at the counter and supermarkets. As a result, deaths raising from caffeine and sugar contained in the energy drinks have increased from 6.5% to 11.5% over the last eight years (Al-Shaar et al.)
