2-3 Page Article Review Paper Rubric- 50 points From the syllabus: Log into HYPERLINK "https://www.library.vcu.edu/" https://www.library.vcu.edu/ all databases psycINFO to find a peer-reviewed research journal article on a topic from class that you find interesting. The article cannot be a dissertation or chapter (be sure to filter so only peer-reviewed journal articles are checked). The article must have been published within the last 5 years, and it must be on research with humans given the focus of the class (it cannot focus on a study with animals). Carefully read the article and take notes on it. Then, submit on blackboard a 2-3 page double-spaced article review paper. Use the rubric below: Criteria/Question Feedback on Areas to Improve Expectations for Excellent Paper Feedback on Strengths Q1: What was this article about?: Describe the main research question(s), sample, and findings, and attach the pdf of the article in the submission on blackboard. 10 points Describes the main research questions in the study 4 Describes the sample (i.e., who participated in the study) 2 Describes the findings of the study 2 Attaches the pdf of the article in the submission on blackboard 2 Q2: Why is the focus of this study important for the developmental period of the participants: Describe the developmental period of the participants in this study, and use 2 concepts from the book to talk about why this study is important for development for individuals in this developmental period? 15 points Mentions the developmental period (e.g., infancy, early childhood, etc.) and age range of the participants in the study 5 Uses 2 concepts from the book to describe why this study is important for development for individuals in this developmental period. For example, if the study you found focused on ADHD and academic achievement, and the participants were all in early childhood, you would want to go to the early childhood chapters and find 2 topics that ca help you explain why a study on ADHD and academic achievement is important for individuals in early childhood. You may not do your paper on ADHD and academic achievement. 5 for each concept Q3: Discuss the applications of this study to your major/interests and career: What did you learn that you did not know before? How is this study related to your major or interests? How could you apply this information in your career? 15 points Mentions at least 1 new thing you learned from this article that you did not know before 5 Describes how this study is related to your major or interests 5 Describes how the information from the article could be used in your future career. In this response, you should describe what your future career is likely to be (a guess is okay if you don’t know yet) and how the information (e.g., results or findings) would be useful and could be used in that career. 5 Organization/Style 10 points 12 point font, double spaced 2-3 pages (no header on paper – must be 2-3 pages of content!)
