Life Event: Applying Psychological Theory
There are several ways that we can project the behavior
and thoughts of human beings. My life event accounts for several psychological
modalities I consider complementary to each other in most cases. In a nutshell,
the evolutionary theory, psycho-dynamic theory, and the social-cultural modality
reign supreme in analyzing this fateful experience (Nourished by Life, 2022).
The modalities amalgamate how human beings behave when in different
circumstances and how they tackle the problems that fall within. This essay
critically examines these theories as they were projected during my transition
from junior to high school.
To begin with, the transition was overtly met with
a number of social-cultural barriers. According to psychologists, a person's
social and cultural background deeply affects our beliefs, mental processes,
and outward behavior (Nourished by Life, 2022). As I joined high school, this
modality became evident even as I met students from diverse backgrounds. As a
Christian with strict moral codes, it was difficult to fit into the new athletic
teammates' shell. We openly differed with most of them regarding religion,
sexual concepts, and race. Eventually, I was given a chance to introduce
myself, and I requested that we pray first before beginning the session. The
stares and glares from the disappointed teammates were enough for me to realize
how diverse our beliefs were. I conceptualized a prejudiced image about them in
my mind and believed I was in the wrong group who barely had a like for
Christianity. However, as the training went on, I understood my teammates, and
I was no different except that I was brought up in a different social
background than theirs.
