Answering Questions: Imperial Sugar Study

a)    In your opinion, what principle(s) of effective communication did Imperial Sugar employ in its response to the disaster?

According to the conduct of Imperial Sugar after the explosion, I trust that the company employed clarity as a principle of effective communication. Hendrix et al. (2012) explained that parties involved should have a clear message for the target audience to eliminate misinterpretations following a disaster. Imperial Sugar's management team simplified its communication, ensuring that the general public understood the same thing it wanted to convey; therefore, appealing to its emotions successfully.

Another principle of effective communication that Imperial Sugar employed was timeliness. Almost immediately after the incident, Imperial Sugar started holding regular press conferences, disseminating correct information, and correcting the record, minimizing confusion caused by misleading communications (Earls, 2010). I understand that communication delays would affect the relationship between the company and its stakeholders, especially during the recovery phase after a crisis.
