INSTRUCTIONS:

This is a two part Essay, first part is Summative Assessment and requires 1500 words, the second part is the Reflective essay for 2000 words. For the analytical project you are required to select two companies from the same sector that are listed on the FTSE 100. You may select any two companies from a sector of your choice. Your analytical project should outline the goals of your selected companies and offer a summary analysis of their financial position through an examination of the financial statements. Using measures of corporate performance, effectively compare and contrast the two companies. You may also refer to other companies in the same sector when making your comparisons. Outcome Assessed 1.    Knowledge of the context in which the financial manager uses information from financial statements to make investment and financing decisions. 2.    Knowledge and understanding of the goals and governance of the corporation. 3.    Knowledge and understanding of the information contained in the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flow. 4.    An ability to critically evaluate measures of corporate performance. 5.    To understand the cost of capital. 6.    Basic knowledge of the preparation of financial statements, financial analysis and projections, primary analysis of financial ratios budgeting and financial risks. 7.    Intellectual skills relating to: a) Location, extraction and analysis of data from multiple sources, including acknowledging and referencing sources; b) Numeracy, including the processing and analysis of financial and other numerical data and the appreciation of statistical methods; c) Using contemporary information and communications technology for the acquisition, analysis and communication of information. 8.    Communication, including the presentation of quantitative and qualitative information in a form appropriate to the intended audience.
