Consider a comparison of: Alberti’s San Andrea in Mantua and Labrouste’s Bibliotheque Ste. Genevieve in Paris.  You must answer the following questions in minimum of 1200 words: 1) How is each facade preparing (or not) the approaching user for the interior procession through the building? Describe the procession through the building and explain how there are cues as to its nature on the façade and in the building massing and organization. 2) How is a common element (the barrel vault) either used, or implied, in each building and what are the structural implication of this? 3) Each architect thought that his studies into ancient Greek or Roman buildings helped establish the form of the new building (i.e. for San Andrea it was Alberti’s erroneous idea about the ideal Roman Temple, for the Bibliotheque it was Labrouste’s study of the so-called “Basilica” at Paestum).
