INSTRUCTIONS:
Use paragraphs, complete sentences, and proper grammar. I am more interested in your ideas and thinking, but having many grammatical or organization errors will cost you points Avoid quoting the articles (unless absolutely necessary), summarize in your own words Focus on the content not the format--focus on the topic and information, not the way it is organized or presented (we are not editing the articles but evaluating its ideas) Be specific, you will lose points for being too general Aim for submissions that are thoughtful, detailed, creative, and critical Think of this as a way to “convince me” that you have read the articles carefully and mastered the content! I have read all of these articles—most of them more than twice. Please make sure you are reading closely, it will be very obvious if you have only skimmed the reading. Remember, only answer the following questions for the critique 1. What is an age effect? What is a period effect? What is a cohort effect? List one specific example for each (not related to obesity) 2. Obesity has skyrocketed over the last 30+ years in the U.S. Is this an age period or cohort effect? Rely on the article for evidence. 3. How is the issue of obesity rate increases in the US linked to the epidemiological transition? Be specific (here you will want to use the article from today by Reither, but also the articles from yesterday by Olshansky).
