Africanism in African American Christianity

Sobel’s article presents persuasive arguments regarding the creation of a unified quasi-African worldview. Reading the article has enabled me to reflect on the essential takeaways such as how the initial cultural contact between the Africans that had moved to America and the Anglican Church. I have learned that after coming into contact with the Anglican Church the vast majority of the Africans rejected Anglicanism; therefore, they gained the psychological space to continue shaping their view of the world. Sobel’s article possesses a steady basis and convincing arguments concerning the dissimilarities between the Anglican Church and the Africans. The church believed in the segregation of the holy as it viewed the world in a moral-ethical dimension. The African view of the world pointed out that the holy penetrated most matter.

This reading furthers my learning and understanding concerning the attempts to combine the different religious beliefs involving the Sacred Cosmos, the Africans, and the Roman Catholic.
